About

Our Core Values

Group One was established in 1999 in the commercial heartland of Sandton. As a new group, Group One has been able to identify and implement a number of core values from the outset:

  • The provision of advice and advocacy of the highest standard.
  • A commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards.
  • Encouraging and assisting historically disadvantaged members of the bar to become leaders in our profession.

Equally important, it has been possible as a new group to retain from the past only those values which deserve a place in the new South Africa and to develop new approaches aimed at realising our core values.

Group One recognises that its members have a moral duty to assist and encourage previously disadvantaged individuals and so assist in the transformation of the bar to reflect more closely the values of the new South Africa. Group One also recognises the importance of providing leadership in the profession, particularly in relation to the transfer of skills from the more to the less experienced. Since its formation Group One has contributed substantially to the development of support programmes such as advocacy training.

Group One is a member of The Johannesburg Bar Society of Advocates (Witwatersrand Local Division).
