Refilwe Nkgodi

Refilwe holds an LLB from the University of South Africa and an Mcom Tax from the University of Witwatersrand.

Prior to joining the Bar, Refilwe was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court in 2013. She completed her articles of clerkship at Spoor and Fisher Attorneys in 2012 where she gained significant experience in the intellectual property fields of trade mark litigation, trade mark prosecution, patents and copyright.

Upon completion of her articles, in 2013, Refilwe joined Deloitte and Touche as a Legal Consultant in the Risk Advisory Department.

In 2014, Refilwe had the honour of being appointed as a Law Research Clerk to then Justice Raymond Zondo at the Constitutional Court of South Africa.

In 2015, Refilwe joined the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in the Dispute Resolution Department where she remained for 8 years gaining experience in corporate tax advisory, personal income tax, Internation tax, vat, M&A tax, private equity tax matters, customs and excise taxes as well as exchange control.

In 2024, Refilwe rejoined Deloitte and Touche’s Africa Tax and Compliance Department, as a Manager in the Tax Controversy Team, before being called to the Bar in 2025.

Refilwe runs a commercial litigation practice with special interest in Tax Law,  Administrative Law, Customs and Excise Law, Exchange Control and Banking Law.
