Clayton holds an LLB degree from the University of Stellenbosch. Prior to being called to the Bar in 2012, he completed his articles and then practised as an attorney, notary public, and conveyancer at Shepstone & Wylie over a period of 6 years. Clayton has a general commercial practice with a special interest in corporate law, the law of contract, property law, administrative law, the law of guarantees, and insolvency law. Clayton has acted for many large, national, and global corporations in significant disputes. Notably, Clayton appeared for the successful appellant in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Spring Forest Trading 599 CC v Wilberry (Pty) Ltd t/a Ecowash and Another 2015 (2) SA 118 (SCA). The case won his instructing attorneys a national award for the outcome in the matter.
