Eric Nwedo

Eric holds B.Proc, LLB, BA Honours (with Merit), Masters in Labour Law and Employment Relations and a Certificate in Pension Funds Law (cum laude). He was called to the Johannesburg Bar on 1 December 2015.  He is a trained mediator and accredited by the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (“AFSA”).

Prior to joining the Bar, Eric was an Employee Relations Executive at the Standard Bank Group.  He also worked in several corporate companies and various other institutions for 18 years (inclusive).  Between 2003 and 2005, Eric lectured Labour Law at the UNISA School of Business Leadership (SBL). He co-developed and lectured an Advanced Programme in Managing Sexual Harassment in the world of work at the Business Entreprise, University of Pretoria.

Eric is currently serving as an Executive Committee member at Group One and HR Sub-Committee.  He is also an active member of the Judicial Review Committee of the Johannesburg Bar and served in various Committees of the JSA. Since 2019 to date, Eric has been called upon as a Guest Lecturer at the University of Pretoria in the Advanced Labour Law Programme focusing at “Strikes, Lockouts, Protest Actions and Picketing Rules.” He is also a Panellist at TOKISO Dispute Resolution.

Eric is normally briefed in the following areas:

  • Labour Law Litigation at the Labour Courts and Labour Appeal Court;
  • General Civil and Commercial Litigation;
  • Motion Court and Eviction related matters;
  • Independent chairing of corporate disciplinary hearings;
  • Mediation and private arbitrations

    He has a keen interest in Pension Funds Law. He is also a Consulting Expert Member in the Audit Committee of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.  He was granted 2016 SASLAW Pro Bono Project Award for his efforts in successfully representing an indigent litigant at the Labour Court
