Helen Ngomane

Helen joined the bar on 29 April 1999. She holds LLB and BProc degrees from The University of Pretoria.

Helen has appeared in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in 1999 to 2000 where she represented the victims of Apartheid.  Helen was an assessor in criminal matters with various Justices of the High Court in 2007 to 2009.  She acted on behalf of several State Departments, the Road Accident Fund and Transnet Pension Fund.  She acted for the Legal Aid Board on pro deo basis.

Her practice consists of general litigation, personal injury litigation, medical negligence cases and representation of State Departments.  She also have an interest in administrative and constitutional law.

She was awarded the London Bar Scholarship to train with Barristers and the Judiciary in International Human rights and Criminal cases in 2002.  She was the first recipient of this Scholarship and it is in conjuction with the General Council of the Bar and Red Lion Court in London.   From 1999 to 2014 she was a member of the Black Lawyers Association (BLA) and Tutor for the Legal Education Centre.  In 2014 she was a studio guest on Carte Blanche for the Oscar Pistorius trial.
