Jonathan Hoffman

Jonathan was called to the Bar in 2012. 

He attended the University of the Witwatersrand between 2003 and 2007, during which time he obtained a B.A. (Philosophy and Law) and L.L.B (cum laude).

Prior to joining the Bar, Jonathan practiced as an attorney at Deneys Reitz Inc. (now Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa), where he specialised in mergers & acquisitions and cross-border finance.

During his time at Deneys Reitz Inc., Jonathan was involved in various fields of corss-border finance, including structured finance, asset finance and commodity finance. Jonathan was also part of the team responsible for the drafing of the African Loan Market Association standardised documentation, used by borrowers and lenders throughout the African continent.

Jonathan has a general commercial practice, with a particular interest in company law, insolvency law, and contractual disputes.

Recently, Jonathan has appeared in the following reported cases:

• Firstrand Bank Limited v The Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa (436/13) [2014] ZASCA 115; and
• Newcity Group v Allan David Pellow NO (577/2013) [2014] ZASCA 162.
