Kgabo runs a general commercial litigation practice with an interest in the following areas: commercial litigation/arbitrations, corporate law (incl. shareholder disputes, director-related proceedings & takeover law), insolvency law, public reviews (including procurement law) competition law, corporate forensic investigations, banking regulatory law, pensions law, insurance law, construction law and tax law.
Before joining the JSA for pupillage, under the mentorship of Adv. Realeboga Tshetlo, Kgabo completed his articles at Bowman Gilfillan, whereafter he practised as an associate for two years in the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) department. During his tenure as an M&A associate, he specialised in equity capital markets, public takeovers, private M&A, corporate governance, and mining/resource transactions.
Kgabo has advised large multinationals and South African companies on takeovers (and defensive strategies), private cross-border acquisitions, IPOs/secondary listings on the JSE, specific JSE issuances, and energy fund formations.
In addition to appearing in the High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court, Kgabo has represented South Africa’s largest institutional investor concerning Steinhoff-related litigation and a multinational corporation against the governments of South Africa and Botswana regarding the Covid-19 lockdown regulations.
Kgabo holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (International Relations, Political Sciences and Public Policy Administration) from the University of Cape Town and an LLB degree from the University of Witwatersrand.
