Mohammed is currently the head of chambers of Group One and has been for the last 10 years.

He came to the Bar in 1997 having spent some time as a commercial attorney at Bowman Gilfillan Inc and as lecturer in insolvency law and commercial law at the University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a Bsc, LLB and H Dip Tax degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Mohammed was recommended for silk in 2012 and has since been appointed as an acting judge at the High Court Gauteng on a regular basis.

His areas of specialisation include insurance, banking, tax, company law, financial and regulatory matters, construction related disputes and general commercial and contractual disputes.

He has appeared in a number of leading cases in the High Court, SCA and the Constitutional Court where he has often represented leading insurers and reinsurers, banking institutions, the Commissioner for South African Revenue Services, the Auditor General of South Africa, the Reserve Bank and the Prudential Authority.

Mohammed is an arbitrator on AFSA’s arbitration panel and is an accredited mediator with Conflict Dynamics and with the UK-based Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR). He has acted as an arbitrator in commercial disputes and has been appointed as an appeal tribunal member in large commercial and construction related arbitrations.

He is also the chief examiner of the National Bar Examination Board.
