Phumudzo Managa

Phumudzo holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Venda. He also holds two (2) LLM degrees – Constitutional and Administrative Law from University of Pretoria and Human Rights Litigation and Advocacy from University of Witwatersrand. He is an elected member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates’ Bar Council for the years 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 respectively. He also serves as a Chairperson of the Young Bar Subcommittee for 2022/2023 period and Trial Advocacy Trainer.

Phumudzo has been practicing as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa since December 2014. Before he was called to the bar, Phumudzo practiced as an Attorney at the Office of the State Attorney for five (5) years (including articles of clerkship).

Phumudzo has a diverse practice which comprises public law, commercial law and trial work. His public law practice largely comprises disputes regarding administrative/ executive decisions which are taken by public entities such as the Compensation Fund, Military Ombud, Municipalities, National Energy Regulator of South Africa and private entities. Phumudzo has also a trial practice which comprise issues relating to expropriation of the land (expropriation of the land act 63 of 1975 or Gauteng Transport Infrastructure Act 8 of 2001), medical malpractice and contractual disputes. His commercial practice comprises disputes between shareholders arising from the Share Subscription and Shareholders’ Agreement, removal of directors from the board in terms of section 71 of the Companies Act 71 of 2008 and Arbitration hearings.
