Tererai Mafukidze

Tererai Rector Mafukidze is a member of the Johannesburg Bar since 2012. He practises with Group One Advocates in Sandton, Johannesburg.
His practice areas at the Bar are: general commercial law, contract law, banking law, competition law, human rights, administrative and constitutional law. He appears in all courts in South Africa, Zimbabwe and in the Region.
He was admitted in Zimbabwe where he also appears as counsel in 1997. He practised with two leading law firms in Bulawayo and Harare before embarking on a 7 year career in commerce. He then worked at the Constitutional Court for the Constitutional Court Trust running the Southern African Chief Justices Forum secretariat and was the Director of the Southern African Legal Information Institute (www.saflii.org) (SAFLII), the web based law reporting facility. He left the Trust in March 2010, and with colleagues set up the African Legal Information Institute, (www.africanlii.org) (AfricanLII) as a project of the Southern Africa Litigation Centre. Both SAFLII and AfricanLII are now housed under the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit (DGRU) of the Law School at the University of Cape Town. Tererai serves on the DGRU Advisory Council.

Tererai was appointed in 2015 for a 5 year term as the representative of the General Council of the Bar of South Africa on the South African Judicial Education Institute (SAJEI) board. He also serves on SAJEI’s curriculum development committee.

Tererai holds an LL.B (Honours) from the University of Zimbabwe and an LL.M from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa)
