Yakoob practices as an advocate of the High Court at Group One Advocates. He has been a member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates (JSA) since 2007 and was recommended for the conferment of senior counsel (Silk) in 2025.
He holds BCom and LLB Degrees. Before joining the Bar, he practised as an attorney. He has appeared in several reported decisions, including matters concerning contractual interpretation, competition law, enrichment, prescription, medical-scheme regulation, public law and arbitration.
Yakoob appears in the High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, Constitutional Court and arbitral and other specialist forums. He has acted in substantial domestic, international and cross-border disputes. His areas of practice include construction and engineering disputes; procurement and administrative-law reviews; corporate, shareholder and insolvency disputes; sports law disputes, mining disputes; general commercial and property disputes; insurance law; regulatory disputes; contractual and delictual claims; and commercial arbitrations.
Yakoob has particular experience in disputes involving government departments, municipalities and state-owned entities. His spheres of practice in this area includes procurement and administrative-law reviews, accountability and service-delivery litigation against local, provincial and national government. He acted as part of a team that procured the very first court-ordered national intervention (in terms of Section 139(7) of the Constitution) of a local municipality in South Africa.
Alongside his litigation practice, Yakoob is an accredited mediator (C.D.) and has mediated several commercial disputes. He has also served as arbitrator in commercial disputes and has sat as an acting judge. As a nominated speaker he presented a paper at an international gathering of practitioners working in the infrastructure and energy space in Africa on The Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards of New York, 1958 (the New York Convention) with an emphasis on the public policy exception.
